All Guilt Aside....
I’m so type-A. I had every detail planned, from my elective C-section, to everyone in the operating room picked out. From my anesthesiologist to the nurses, they were all my work family and I wouldn’t have done it any other way.....They were bringing my daughter into this world on March 5, 2008. But where was the manual? Out of my body came this beautiful 7lb 2oz baby girl, but where was the instruction book that was going to tell me everything I needed to know? I’ll tell you where it was.... nowhere to be found. I needed a schedule. I thrived on a schedule! Most of my days were scheduled down to the hour. Until they weren’t. That internal clock was about to explode when I thought I would be late for anything..... due to arguing for an hour with my daughter to get her out of bed for school, asking 80 times in a single morning what she wanted for breakfast, or after a ketchup spill, quickly digging to find the least dirty uniform shirt in the laundry basket, or the Little Einstein’s episode was still on, or the shoes could only be tied by her, right at that moment when it took 5 hours per shoe to do it. But the sight of that happy and beautiful little face when I’d walk in the door after a day’s work made it worth every minute. Were there times I regretted not being a homeroom mom? Of course. Were there times I was sad I missed a mid-day school event? Or had my laptop tied to my hip as I was handing out ice cream in the cafeteria just trying to have some semblance of a presence? Absolutely! After having a few heart-to-hearts with close friends and also my Dad (because he gives the BEST advice, and always has..... "work hard and go after what you want).....this is where I’ve ended up.....I busted my ass to get to where I am today and I will never again be made to feel guilty for having a career I love, so that I can give my daughter all the things she wants and needs.
