It was August of 1994, and I just started medical school. I remember being very excited to complete my first week, and then be heading home to New Jersey to be a bridesmaid in my best friend from high school's wedding. I was running late when I showed up for the rehearsal and just jumped right into my spot without being able to meet the guy I was paired up with. We basically said hello to each other as we walked up the aisle, but later that night at dinner and the following day at the wedding we realized this pairing was "meant to be". Our friends who were getting married did not try to set us up, but as it turned out, I had met the man I thought I would spend the rest of my life with. If you have followed this blog at all, you know it didn't turn out that way, but we had some really good times together. The other photo above in 1998 was literally the week before our wedding when other friends of ours got married and my ex-husband was the best man. That friend was then the best man in our wedding which happened on 6-6-98, the weekend after I graduated from medical school.
I had a fairytale wedding on a beautiful June day. Many thanks to my mom and dad for giving us the perfect wedding. We had an outdoor ceremony followed by a reception which was so much fun. Great people, great food and dancing all night. We then went off to Puerto Rico and had an incredible honeymoon. Two years later we became parents for the first time. Two years after that, our second daughter was born. Two months after that the fairytale came to an end and he moved out. We were officially divorced about a year later. It took a while for me to be able to look at these pictures again and be happy. Despite the outcome, I can now look back on this day and this time in my life with good memories of when we were happy together and our beautiful wedding. Most importantly, if not for this day and our union, I would not have my two amazing daughters. I cannot imagine my life without them, so I am forever grateful he and I walked up the aisle together that day in 1994 and then again in 1998.
My brother got married two years after me, and I was actually three months pregnant with my oldest at their wedding. Luckily, I could still squeeze into my bridesmaid dress! It was such an exciting time. Hard to believe that was 20 years ago. So much has changed since then, but there will always be so many great memories.💗
