The Sidecar

Tuesday Treats

As I sit here on a chilly fall night, just outside of Philadelphia, PA, with a Stouffer's microwave mac-n-cheese (because sometimes after a long day, that's all us "working moms" can muster up) paired with one of the best chenin blanc wines from Stellenbosch, South Africa (because it doesn't take any more effort to open a good bottle of wine versus a great bottle of wine).... my Tuesday Treats has taken a slight turn this week. Instead of a food recipe, I decided to do a drink recipe. The Sidecar. I generally stick to wine in my everyday life, but every now than then, a carefully crafted cocktail is in order. This one is from my long-time friend Robyn. She kept me in check during college, and she still does. Long gone are the days of Boone's Farm Strawberry wine while playing cards in the frat house.......now our days as working moms are filled with the hustle and bustle of careers and family.

So as we've gotten a little more sophisticated with our lives, so must our beverages follow suit. So when I come to visit, if we aren't drinking bubbly, one of her specialties is the Sidecar. Some prefer the Sidecar with Brandy, others prefer Cognac. Robyn prefers Cognac, so here is the recipe:

Ingredients for each glass to be served

*1.25 ounces of cognac (we used Remy Martin VSOP)

*1.25 ounces of Cointreau or Triple Sec (or other orange liquor)

1 ounce of lemon juice

Combine the above ingredients into a shaker with ice. Shake the mixture well, then pour. Typically it would be served in a Coupe glass or a Martini glass, but any decorative glass works.

So cheers to everyone on this Tuesday evening! Sometimes us "Working Moms" need something a little stronger than a glass of wine...... and as our kids enter their teenage years......

Saluti!
